Buff Orpingtons (Large Fowl)
Back to list of breeds

Buff Orpingtons are without doubt, the "hippy" of the Poultry world.  Big hair (well, big feathers), laid back, lazy and total pacifists.

For the 2010 season we are kicking off with "Willow" in the breeding pen with 6 girls.  Willow is an old man now but in his prime he had a highly successful show career and last year produced a high number of stunning daughters.

At the moment, Willow's life with his girls consists of:

1. We open house door, they ignore us and pretend to be asleep (most normal chickens run out as fast as they can).

2. We feed them and provide fresh water; they continue to ignore us.

3. We leave them to do whatever they want to do; they go back to sleep.

When they do venture out for a stroll  we get to see that they are indeed, the most beautiful birds (and they don't actually stroll - they strut).

Willow and family already have youngstock hatched in 2010, with more on the way....

In a months time, Willow will be rested and "Godzilla" will take over with the fathering duties.  Godzy is a young man who was shown at last years National achieving a 3rd in a very strong class....Pictures of Godzy to follow shortly.
